Sri Lanka is an agriculture-based country. Often
in newspapers one can read that many farmers complain about getting low prices
for their produce. They also complain that such situation repeats every year
and turns them into as permanent debtors. At the same time we can observe that
prices of produce float at a very low level in one part of the country, while
they are at a very higher level in another part of the country.
One reason for this low pricing is due to the surplus of supply to the markets in a single day or in a week. When demand goes high many farmers cultivate the same and this results in the surplus of supplies.
Therefore we need to inform them on the selection of the crops to cultivate and of the current market trends on pricing of produce and the demand of produce in different markets for fair pricing and the betterment of their living.
